Abby Arcane returns to the CDC in Atlanta, only to find it under lockdown by the Conclave. She is confronted by Nathan Ellery (Michael Beach) and forced to grapple with the threat to Alec.
Following the events of Episode 7, a severely injured Avery Sunderland (Will Patton) struggles to survive in the swamp. He hallucinates visions of Lucilia, experiences the swamp's hostility, and is eventually found by Swamp Thing.
Despite having every reason to let Avery die, Swamp Thing rescues him, bringing him to his shack to heal him. During this, Swamp Thing explains his nature in a profound scene, acting with humanity despite his monstrous appearance.
Represents a physical and psychological journey for Avery as he confronts his mortality and sins.
Upon recovery, Avery immediately resumes his scheming, vowing to return with Jason Woodrue to use Alec for a "cure".
Alec shows mercy, while the "civilized" humans (Avery, Woodrue) show monstrous behavior.
