The 2002 film follows three college roommates—Dave (Devon Sawa), Sam (Jason Segel), and Jeff (Michael Maronna)—who have spent four years scamming and cheating their way through Holden University. With graduation just weeks away, their elaborate scheme is finally uncovered by the school's obsessive "super geek," Ethan (Jason Schwartzman).

Instead of reporting them, Ethan blackmails the trio into helping him win the heart of the most popular girl on campus, Angela Patton (Jaime King). However, the plan goes off the rails when Dave unexpectedly falls for Angela himself, leading to a clash with the increasingly psychotic and psychotic-acting Ethan.
