When a group of Samaritans shows extreme hostility toward them, Big James and John ask Jesus if they should call down fire from heaven to destroy them.
Jesus strongly rebukes the brothers for their prejudice and lack of humility, reminding them that He came to save, not destroy. Following this encounter, He gives them the nickname "Sons of Thunder" (Boanerges).
The episode opens with the disciple John (played by George H. Xanthis ) interviewing his fellow disciples as he begins writing his Gospel. He is seen speaking with Matthias , who had been chosen to replace Judas Iscariot.
These two characters officially join the group of disciples during this episode.
