The first half of the season centers on Bishamon’s intense hatred for Yato, which stem from a long-past event where Yato slaughtered her entire previous retinue of Regalia. The narrative reveals that this wasn't just murder; she was being consumed by a Phantom born from her inability to stop taking in spirits, making her sick. Yato, acting on a secret plea from her loyal guide Kazuma, murdered them to save her life.

A heavily Blighted Bishamon attacks Yato. The battle forces her to face the consequences of her inaction and eventually accept that she must change her ways, leading to the painful release of her poisonous Regalia and a new, more communicative relationship with her family. 2.
