The ultimate goal is to provide every child with a "forever family," whether through reunification with biological families when safe or through legal adoption. Safe Campuses and Holistic Support
In South Africa, the abandonment crisis is a tragic symptom of extreme poverty, lack of educational resources, and desperation. For every baby found alive, at least two are found deceased in locations such as dumpsters, rivers, and toilets. Mothers often feel they have no other choice due to a lack of support systems or awareness of safe alternatives. The Three-Pronged Intervention Model Impactbaby
This work highlights a critical "thin line" between vulnerability and safety, standing in the gap to ensure that children are "treasured and not tortured". The ultimate goal is to provide every child
The program provides counseling and education to expectant mothers in vulnerable situations. By teaching life-saving alternatives and providing emotional support, they aim to prevent the act of abandonment before it occurs. Mothers often feel they have no other choice
For babies who have already been abandoned, the initiative works to provide immediate medical attention and safety. This includes support for "baby savers"—safe drop-off points that allow mothers to leave infants anonymously but safely.
The program also utilizes specialized campuses designed to be safe havens for rescued children. These environments are tailored to be peaceful and comforting, featuring counseling rooms with specific amenities like books and soft furniture to help young children feel at home while receiving care.
