A Monster: Calls

A Monster Calls is a deeply moving exploration of grief, truth, and the human capacity for self-deception. Written by Patrick Ness from an original idea by Siobhan Dowd—who passed away from cancer before she could write it—the story follows 13-year-old Conor O'Malley as he struggles with his mother's terminal illness.

At seven minutes past midnight, an ancient yew tree monster visits Conor. Unlike the terrifying entity from Conor's recurring nightmare, this monster is a teller of tales. It promises three stories, after which Conor must tell the fourth: his own "truth". 'A Monster Calls' by Patrick Ness: Fantasy Book Review A Monster Calls
